A new addition to the Marie Curie

Sorry for my absence. A lot has been happening on the ship since my last posting.

I was sent a message, from an old acquaintance, regarding a new hologram they had recently had installed. I thought little about it at first, until I read further. A little back story and all will make more sense.

Several months after the Marie Curie had her shake down, and we’d participated in several missions, the Captain and I were having our weekly dinner in her quarters when she presented a box of neatly stored isolinear chips. ‘What are these?’ I enquired of her.

She went on to explain about one of her past-times with her father when she was young. A few times a week they would sit down together and watch an old, and I mean very old, Earth hologram story. Turns out these were 20th and 21st century television programs. Her father had come across them in some old storage place and had them converted into hologram stories. The twist here is he had each one converted in two ways; one you could view as a 3D story ((which proved to be the more watched versions), and the other way you could actively take part in.

WOW! 🤯

We incorporated watching some of these as just stories to start with. During down time we would, what Caz affectionately terms ‘binge’ several episodes at a time. One of these shows was called ‘House, M.D.’

It was the main character, Dr Gregory House, who my acquaintance was referring to.

I couldn’t resist. I just had to tell Ta’Hal all about it and ask if we could ‘trial’ House as part of our holographic team. She was a little resistant at first but could see the logic behind it and agreed, in principle.

Fun and games ensued. House came online prematurely, with only half of his protocols and safety features installed. He upset our resident, human, Cardiologist! Almost came to blows with our Captain, Ta’Hal. I really thought she would can him there and then! I was devastated!

Anyway, Caz and I sorted his programming out and his safety features. He can still be his normal self, but discretion dictates his idiosyncrasies be controlled. Although I do believe Caz may have left behind some mischief making in bis programming that will surely raise its head when we least expect it!

Ship Blog

The ship now has her own, published, blog!

I got the idea, several months back, that the ship should have its own blog. Somewhere all things ‘Marie Curie’ could be posted. I went ahead and put something together, played around with it for a couple of months, made it public and then told the captain. (You know the old adage: It’s easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission). She was okay with it all. In fact she was delighted! [Phew!]

In fact, the Captain was so pleased, she decided we should include a page to pull in our sister site, ‘I’m a doctor, not a …’, so we can publish our stories from there along with the ships news. I’m happy to report, at this time of writing, we’ve posted four stories, as well as the stories from the main site. They’ve been well received and we have some repeat readers. All good!

Flurry of activity

Flurry of Activity

Since my first post, we have had a little flurry of activity aboard the ship.

Two of our crew members have made decisions on their character avatars by posting about them in welcome stories.

A third has introduced their avatar along with introducing their partner along with their partners avatar.

Welcome

The First Officer welcomes you aboard the

USS Marie Curie NCC-55985

This blog is set around the fictional starship, the USS Marie Curie NCC-55985.

This is a Starfleet Federation Hospital ship, being one of the latest in the fleet and a Nobel Research Science vessel outfitted for medical duties as well as scientific research.

The forward "sphere" section of the ship has been designed as a fully functioning hospital complete with its own laboratories. It is able to conduct extensive research as necessary. It is also capable of detaching in times of emergency allowing the main body of the ship to carry out other, vital, duties. She also carries a small tactical contingent along with security, in times of entering potentially dangerous sectors.

The Nobel-class was designed to ensure the separation of the Sphere Section, allowing it to serve as an immobile support base. The complex engineering and science that went into supporting this process has the added benefit of outfitting the ship with additional redundancies and subsystems, making it an extremely versatile and an often surprising addition to the Federation's fleets. In essence, the sphere can become its own space station when necessary.

The vessel is commanded by Captain, and Chief Medical Officer,

Ta'Hal Do'S'Hadow and First Officer, Commander Y'Llana Pe'Ra'Ce.
